PERINATAL MOOD AND ANXIETY DISORDERS
Support for Pregnancy, Postpartum, and Early Parenthood
Pregnancy and early parenthood can be beautiful — and incredibly overwhelming. If you’re feeling anxious, tearful, irritable, disconnected, or unlike yourself, you are not alone. Many parents struggle silently during this season.
I provide specialized therapy for perinatal mental health, supporting individuals and couples through pregnancy, postpartum, and the early years of parenting.
You deserve support in this chapter — not just survival.
What Is Perinatal Mental Health?
Perinatal mental health includes emotional and psychological challenges that occur:
During pregnancy
After childbirth
Following pregnancy loss
During infertility or fertility treatment
Throughout the transition to parenthood
These challenges are often referred to as Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs).
PERINATAL MOOD AND ANXIETY DISORDERS CAN INCLUDE
Postpartum depression
Postpartum anxiety
Panic attacks
Intrusive thoughts
Postpartum OCD
Birth trauma
Adjustment difficulties
Relationship strain after baby
These experiences are common — and treatable.
How I Help
My approach is compassionate, evidence-based, and attachment-focused. Together, we create a space where you can speak honestly about what you’re feeling — without shame.
In our work together, we may:
Normalize and Educate
Understanding what is happening in your brain and body can reduce fear and self-blame.
Reduce Anxiety and Intrusive Thoughts
We work on grounding tools, nervous system regulation, and practical strategies to reduce overwhelm.
Address Depression and Emotional Numbness
We gently explore feelings of sadness, disconnection, guilt, or hopelessness and work toward renewed emotional stability.
Process Birth or Medical Trauma
If your birth experience was frightening or not what you expected, we can process it safely and at your pace.
Strengthen Identity and Adjustment
Becoming a parent changes you. Therapy can help you integrate this new identity without losing yourself.
Support the Couple Relationship
Parenthood can strain even strong partnerships. I also help couples navigate this transition with empathy and teamwork.
You Might Benefit from Perinatal Therapy If:
You cry more than you expected
You feel constantly on edge
You’re afraid something bad will happen to your baby
You have intrusive or unwanted thoughts
You feel disconnected from your baby or partner
You feel guilt for not “enjoying every moment”
You feel unlike yourself
You do not have to be in crisis to seek support. Early intervention often leads to faster healing. Many parents hesitate to seek help because they fear being judged. In our sessions, there is no judgment — only curiosity, compassion, and support.
Your thoughts do not define you.
Your struggles do not mean you are failing.
And asking for help is a sign of strength.
